Arjuna's Penance

This is one of the most interesting sights of Mahabalipuram. 27 meters long and 9 meters high, this is the largest and finest rock carving in India.

Rathas

They are known as Pancha Pandava Ratha. The Rathas with their Gopurams, multipillared and sculptured walls and vimanas are full size models of different kinds of temples known to the Dravidan builders of the 7th century. 

Krishna Mandapam

This is one of the earliest rock - cut temples with carvings. It recreates one of the episodes form the life of Lord Krishna from his boyhood.  

Mandapam

In all, there are eitht mandapams, situated within a radius of one km. The rock-cut mandapams are known for their design and execution.  

Crocodile farm

It is located 14km. north of Mammalapuram. 1000 crocodiles of six species are reared here.
