Kailasanathar Temple One of the earliest temples in Kancheepuram is the Kailasanathar temple built of honey - coloured Sandstone. Built by the Pallavas, the temple has 54 small shrines around it.

Vaikuntaperumal Temple
The
Vaikuntaperumal Temple is dedicated to Vishnu. This temple was built
between 674-800AD. Elegant pillars carved with lions edge the temple
courtyard.

Ekambareshwarar Temple
This is one of the largest temples in Kancheepuram, its huge gopuram, 57 meters high and besides a thousand - pillared hall which houses the temple's numerous artefacts. There is an old mango tree with four branches that is supposed to be 2500 years old.

Varadarajaperumal Temple
This is another enormous monument with massive outer walls and a hundred-pillared hall. The annual Garudotsavam festival (May) proves to be a good introduction into the rich and colourful pageantry of Hinduism.
